Hastily, the sprightly she-wolf made her way toward him, though she slowed, orange eyes widening, when she neared the gaunt, bedraggled wolf who looked like a ghost of his former self.

"Oh-my-gosh, Luke!" Smash shouted, dropping down beside him and nudging his cheek. "Are you actually dead this time?" But the joke fell flat and her mouth drew into a grim line as she peered into his face from an inch away, her eyes crossed as she stared at the nose that matched her son's perfectly.
