Tavi may have been in denial, but as soon as the thought crossed Reek's mind, it was all he could think about. The chances she would become pregnant were ever likely— and while there was a possibility that his seed hadn't taken, Reek felt the need to be prepaired for whatever came next. With the chance at being a proper father to the children born of his ex-mate stripped from him, Reek would not allow the same to happen to his possible bastards. They deserved a full-time father.

"We will deal with it," he interjected. This had been his own doing as well— and if Tavi bore children, Reek would also bear the yolk and burden. She burrowed her face deeper into his scruff and Reek closed his eyes, readily accepting any comfort his companion had offer.

The words she spoke stilled Reek's heart. Not alone. Other than Tavi, Reek felt he was completely alone. All the connections he had worked to make were severed with the loss of the Maplewood. However, the full brunt of the pain was softened by Tavi's presence. For a moment, they sat in silence, but it did not last. "I won't abandon you," he said. He was not Ukko. Reek was not the abandoning sort. If Tavi would stand by him, he would do the same.
