Why would he want them killed? Why did she? The question was not one that could be answered so quickly. It demanded thought, and a great deal of it. "They would not be the result of you and your mate. They'd be accidents, born into a strictly business relationship. They'd have no place in this world." They'd be a problem. They would do to her what she and her siblings had done to her mother—make her soft. So much so that there was no telling what might arise from it, and she wasn't at all interested in finding out.

"Why would you want them to live?" the woman asked, voice a bit too sharp. "Solely because they'd be your children?" A selfish reason, in her opinion. Driven by the need for one's bloodline to continue, and nothing else. There couldn't be anything else.
