He was happy with his noise, and puffs his chest out proudly although he doubts anyone else would have heard. To him, he is mostly happy to exercise the ability. He does not even know what he is fully capable of yet, after all. So, by trial and error, he learns slowly and the application of the skills would come swiftly afterward.

His ears perk and he notices Shikoba with a tiny, low 'wuff' noise of vague concern just because she's not one of his immediate family. At first he's a bit alarmed but realization settles quickly; he knows her. Silas softens, and waves his tail happily at her when she supplies his ears with something interesting. He wiggles his entire rump at that, yapping back as he approaches her while she comes to him. He tries to build up to a similar yodel, but doesn't quite make it.
