nothing was adequate. she needn't be so picky, of course — but all hosannah wanted was a bright patch, somewhere that the sun could penetrate, so that she could bask in the warmth of her lord and pray to him properly. the darkness was unsettling. she had never been fond of it, though the childish fear had been abated because of the teachings she had endured, and the strength of her faith.
upon finding nothing of use, hosannah paused in her wandering and huffed to herself; she looked askance to the section of woodland behind her, wondering if she had missed something despite her scrutiny — and by chance, her eyes roamed across the hiding place of the beast. they did not linger, though. she remained oblivious, and after a couple of seconds began her search anew.
she moved a few more steps, but then there was something — a scent? — and she halted once more. the wind had been blustering through the trees for some time now, but the decidedly wolfish aroma had not been there until now. curious, hosannah turned her sharp features to face the oncoming wind, and ducked against it; once it had lessened some, she raised her head and barked sharply, and her yip carried through the stillness. come out, she was saying, though afterward she wondered if that had been wise.
