He held on to the tail, growling through it in his mouth. The wolf would not give in, however, and choose to loose her tail instead of her life. When it released from her body, it threw him back on his haunches, and he watched her run away, her tail, or at least part of it, dangling from his unrelenting jaws. Blood dripped onto his chest as he watched his meal run for her life, knowing there was no catching her now. 

But, at least he had a little treat. There was next to zero meat on this part of the tail, as it consisted mostly of bone and fur, but it would be something to gnaw on. The effects of today's catch, and the wolf's loss, would stay with her long after this tail was done decaying in the mud where Mortar would leave it when he was done with it.
