"Come on," she nudged the girl lightly and beckoned her to follow to the nearest pile of sea-weeds. "These don't bite or eat naughty puppies. Pretty harmless they are," she explained, as she showed, how to dig and, what to look for. 

"Here," she had found a small fish and offered to the girl. "Try it - it's not as half as bad as it smells."
