Cicero remained motionless as Xan spoke, staring at him with his mismatched eyes. He would think on how to deal with the situation later; maybe he would tell Damien about what happened, or have a talk with Xan when he had rebounded from the famine's weakening.

Yet when Xan turned to leave, tail in the air in victorious gesture, Cicero's eyes widened as he looked upon his withdrawing form. Not even Damien's approach was noticed by Cicero as he stared and found himself in an epiphany.

He didn't know how, he didn't know why; he just knew it was true.
