The ivory woman took his offer, and the king stepped away from it - giving it to her - as she ate. She seemed interested enough, and Alder was beginning to really think she would join. Her words were a surprise - she was one of the lucky few who already knew what royalty lived like - but welcomed with a hum in his chest. 
 
               "Good - You will adapt to the Royal Fire Court well. What are your skills. Freya?"

He didn't yet pass or deny her officially into the ranks, but had already decided that as soon as she was done eating, he would show her the borders. They could talk over a patrol, perhaps - but her future seemed like it would be in the Court, in his family.
