And still, Damien bows down respectfully, forcing his neck to bend in order to retain his head. The other seems stiff, anxious, but his caution is with reason. Damien can scent Asterr inside, and with hers the heavy smell of birth swamps the entrance of her den.

"I am a friend," he breaks the silence, unsure as to whether Asterr can hear him from inside. "Asterr sent Nekoda for me. I had been waiting," he explains, but the tension remains. The silence, even inside the den, makes Damien nervous and he wonders whether everything is okay inside. But there's no way for him to find out across the sentinel.
