The next question Valette posed struck her as somewhat odd; there were ways to maneuver around the mountains that didn’t necessarily mean having to cross them. October, for instance, had trekked around them instead of hiking over. “We really don’t know how or why they’ve gone missing. They could be anywhere.” If someone had kidnapped the youngsters, there was no telling how far away they may have been dragged. A feeling of disgust and terror rippled through October at the thought. She shuddered.
 
Rickon’s presence beside her was one she drew great comfort and strength from. She leaned against him somewhat, grateful beyond words for his selflessness.
