He let her go, and the yearling shook her coat and gave Lecter the stank eye. “I’ll do what I want,” she replied defiantly. Dove was not the brightest crayon in the box, but it had never served her wrongly in the past. Unfortunately, it was getting her into a whole lot more trouble here than it ever had.

“And you can’t make me do anything.” Sure, he could drag her around day and night, but he couldn't do anything beyond that. He couldn't force her to hunt for anybody else, make herself useful, or anything of the sort.
