Shrike had been different, and that was why Fox had gone to him first. He was already part of their family. He had proven himself loyal, dependable, and worthy of being by her side.

"I am to be earned, not taken," Fox clarified, lashing her tail. Again, Raven's presence made this decision bearable, even if every ounce of her body screamed out for him to take her right here and now. That wasn't to say, of course, that he would not be able to earn her. But that would take time, dedication, and proving himself worthy of a place at her side.
