Reckless? Raven pondered that. Nobody had applied that to her before, though she could see why Birk might think that. Whether or not it was just the effect of the poppies, she decided not to take offense. She shrugged, a smile twitching her mouth, then considered his question. Her head still felt pleasantly light and airy, though the effects were definitely wearing off now.
"No," she replied firmly and with a smile. "I'm very careful. I do my best to identify the plant first, then analyze the risk on what I know about it. There aren't that many outright toxic ones out there, you know, and most of them are easy to pick out of a lineup. As for the rest, well, it's a calculated risk. I take a small enough dose that even if it's toxic, at most I'll get a head- or stomachache. And if I somehow still manage to get in a really bad way—like I think I've poisoned myself—I know what to do." She would eat grass to make herself throw up the substance, then swallow soil or even bits of wood to absorb what was left in her system.
"Thank you for your concern, though," she said after a beat. Raven tilted her head, favoring him with a smile that wouldn't come as easily once the poppies were entirely out of her system. She then cautioned, "If it makes you uncomfortable, you may want to go now. I'll be ingesting a second and larger dose soon."
