“Yes, of course I'm your dad, Chusi,” Arturo was quick to speak, the smoky timbre of his voice reassuring, soothing. He had not meant to cause her distress, nor call attention to it in any other way then the one he had meant: that he took notice of it and it filled him with the unconditional love that he felt for his children with his ex-lover: Duana. “Nothing will ever change that,” He added, before he gave a pause to draw his tongue against his jowls. “I only pointed it out because it fills me with joy to hear you call me dad, is all.” He explained. In truth, he did not think that he could adequately put the feeling to words and didn't try. Joy didn't correctly capture the essence but it was close enough to the word that he did not have to fill the void.

Their topic careened back toward the spire looming like a massive sentinel in the distance and Arturo blanched as he peered up at it again, an ear flicking in his daughter's direction at her explanation as to her desire to climb it. He drew in another rattled breath and let it out slowly, his gaze sliding back to her. “I'm not comfortable with the idea of you climbing that, Chus,” He admitted, voice raw and rough. He wanted to tell her no but was afraid that if he forbid it she would sneak behind his back. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, but she was entering that stage of her life and his first litter of children had told him that their words could not always be trusted at face value. In the end, if she really wanted to do it she would, whether he declined her permission or not and that the thought scared him all the more. “If you were to fall from those heights ...it would kill you.” And the idea was too unbearably painful for him. “I just...the idea terrifies me. I took a fall from Ravenshook Cliffs a few months back and I do not want you to suffer the trauma I did...or worse.” He offered her his reasons why, as he would always do: he did not usually have a “no” without a reason and he wanted to be honest with her.
