Dag didn't know the exact moment when his companion met her mark - he assumed that she'd be with him, and when he found the time to look for her, she did not disappoint. The leader had taken a chunk from the doe's armpit, and while Dag did his best to tear the doe off her feet, he did not despair when she got away from him. Neither did he set off at once to go after her, instead choosing to take a moment to regain his breath.

"She's not long for this world," he said to the first female with a bloody smile, shaking the snow out of his pelt before moving to lick a bit of icy blood from the ground. "Should we wear her down or or wait?" he wondered, privately thinking that he would enjoy a bit of a chase before dinner. He knew, however, that the smarter thing to do would be to conserve their energy and wait for her to tire her own self out. After all, she wouldn't be getting very far with blood pouring out of her and two heavily damaged legs.
