she kissed him, and armand shook in her arms with a sudden desire to know her warmth. but he did not act on this -- it was a feeling of desperation. the woman was one to whom he could speak, and armand wondered why she did not answer him, but knew also that he was unfit for conversation. and so he curled closer to her, and lay his head back upon the silk of her white robes.
"i have nothing and i am nothing. i long for death with every beat of my heart, and yet i cannot understand it. i am young; i have many years left in me. why should i not live them? what must i do to drag myself from this ... sucking pit?" armand shifted, rolling until he could gaze up into the woman's eyes, and there he lingered a long moment.
