She knew now that she would never again step foot beneath the Sentinels that watched over her birthplace. It had changed-- perhaps in the way her father had meant, or perhaps not-- and the dark witch knew in her bones that it no longer suited her. Her Donnelaith was a home to a small, closely-knit family. It was not the mass alliance that stood as a wall along the shore. Emaleth had been exhausted by the interactions required for the wolves that followed her sister; to extend the same to wolves she did not and could not trust was overwhelming.
Once, she had been angry with the other Mayfairs for leaving-- how could they! She had left, but always returned, and the others had forsaken Lasher by leaving his grave! But wisdom came with age, and Emaleth now understood. She loved Deirdre and would be forever loyal, but she could not lose herself in service to another. If she could not believe in her sister's vision, she would not dilute the strength of her twin's followers.
"@Deirdre," she sang breathily over the cliffs. This would be painful for them both, but Emaleth deserved to find her own path and footing in the same way that her younger sister had.
