The wraith trailed from his cavern beside the depths toward the thick wood of Donnelaith. His dark gaze passed over the land with a quiet intensity, and he furrowed his brows as he crossed the border that was fading in scent and strength. It had been some time since they had closed their borders to each other and addressed the joining of the two packs. Part of him wished that Arturo had settled just that much closer so that they could be permitted to do the same. Already he believed their alliance to be strong enough to endure anything that might attempt to strike them down. He thought only of the chill in the air and the breath of snow on that breeze. It was obvious that the harsher months were upon them. It was fortunate for him and his brood that they resided beside the ocean, for she was a boon.

The trees had a crispness to them that could only be attributed to the winter’s breath. The wraith stopped to scent the mixed aromas of the forest wolves. His brow remained furrowed tightly over his darkened eyes and he snorted a plume into the air before trekking forward through their home. Try as he might, Skellige could not see himself spending much time within the healer’s realm. The thick trunks of Donnelaith made him rigid with anxiety, but he pressed forward toward the den of the woman who was tending to his children. Her name had been Muses and she had been willing to do what needed to be done when others could not. As he neared the den, the salt-banded Cairn found that he was still bothered that his pups had been born within the forest and not on the shores of the black rock.

what would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?
it would be like sleep without dreams
