When he saw her under the light of the pale moon, Hiram felt a sappingly empty feeling. His chest felt hollow. It was a thing of self loathing; of guilt. He knew in his heart he loved this woman. How could he not? She who knew pain as much as he. But, she was not his, nor could she ever be -- yet there she was, standing close enough to hold but never keep. He found it hard to look at her, not after their fractured affair. Not after his betrothal to Jhala. He looked down, but his eyes briefly stole glances at the beauty of the stuttering wolf he stood before him.
He could not speak, not a single word. For a man who made his living on the merit of his word, Hiram was left speechless. Nevertheless, no words could convey the sadness in his heart.
