As Laurel spoke, Hiram's boiling emotions quickly shifted from intense anger to frustrated pity. He huffed. "Laurel." His voice was a fractured whisper. "You know Jhala's right." He met his wife's eyes and nodded. Despite everything -- every selfish decision Hiram had ever made -- he lived for his children. He loved Laurel as a father loves his daughter, more than he could ever put into words.
