She seemed surprised at first, but Steady gleamed when she admitted she had fallen for him, too. For him, it was all he needed to solidify their relationship. But, it seemed Valette still had doubts. No matter. It would not sway Steady, and he would simply spend the rest of his life by her side. I promise you, Valette, there is no place I would go without you. You are my home, he said, hoping he conveyed just how much she meant to him. 

It broke his heart how much hurt she had gone through, but he did understand her doubt came from that, and not from him. If you let me, I will spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel lonely again. It was a promise he intended to keep, as he wanted only to make her happy. He would live for her, and if it ever came to it, he would die for her, as well. 

His heart thudded in his chest as he nuzzled just under her ear. Be my mate, he whispered. He hadn't intended it to sound so much like a command, but he had never wanted anything, anyone, so much in all his life.
