Steady had been on edge since the moment he realized Phiipa was in heat. Not because he wished it was Valette, though he did, but because of the history he had with wolves trying to mate when they weren't given permission to. Steady had felt he had bent over backwards to make sure the pups that came here were well taken of and loved, but he also knew it should be he and Valette having pups, and no one else. He didn't know Phiipa all that well, and he worried, maybe unnecessarily, that she would be another Eden.

Instead of seeking Phiipa out to watch her, though, he sought out his love. He had no idea she would be feeling insecure about the whole situation, but something told him it would be better for him to be around her than a female in heat. He caught movement, and realizing it was her, he chuffed to get Valette's attention. His tail wagged in anticipation of the distance between them being closed, and reveled in the moment he would be able to bury his nose in the thick fur of her neck.
