Mount Apikuni Would I spend forever here and not be satisfied?

Viatrix had chosen that morning to explore the opposite side of The Sunspire, but mid-afternoon saw her wandering away from the territory. She didn't intend to go very far, for the scent of foreign wolves was heavy on the breeze near the mountain's base, but there was a second, much smaller mountain that had drawn her interest. She slipped into the belt of greenery separating her home from the charred slopes of Mount Apikuni, none the wiser to the conflict boiling in this very region.

As she roamed, the DeMonte's nose twitched through the grass underfoot. She could smell snakes here, along with the usual fare of voles, mice, rats, weasels, and other small creatures. The errant trail of a fox cut across her path at one point, but mostly she could smell the snakes. She came across one, too, which swerved away from her at lightning speed. Non-venomous, she guessed as she watched its slim black body dart through the grass.

After about half an hour of exploring Mount Apikuni's base, the female seated herself with a sigh to rest briefly, and in doing so, surveyed her surroundings. If she continued past the mountain, she would reach the glinting creek she had seen from the Sunspire's higher reaches, but the wind told her there were wolves that way. Her only option was to go back the way she'd come, or scale the small, scarred mountain to find a way around.
