The male pulled his face away from Blackie's reach, wrinkling his nose against the scent of sweet puppy breath and the wistful memories it evoked. Hobbling a bit, and with one paw lifted gingerly off the ground, the male got to his paws just in time to hear a semi-familiar voice about and wholly unfamiliar name.

It was the alpha, and she looked concerned. Murdock held back a retort that his name most certainly wasn't Steph before he realized the moniker must belong to Blackie. Stephie, thought the male, combining the two names. "Found somethin'a yours," he said instead, his voice coming out a bit gruff. He realized that the pain in his ankle was causing him to grit his teeth and forced himself to relax, and to dip his head so that it hung below hers, despite the disparity in their sizes.

"Was takin' a nap. She showed up and woke me rather rudely." Though the words were mild and somewhat teasing, he shot a tiny look of consternation at Stephie, remembering how she'd decided to wake him and how much it'd scared him.
