They climbed higher and higher up their new trail. Clary fell into position just behind her sister, sticking close the mountainside, and pausing often to gather in the sights to her left. But she didn't actually realize how high they'd climbed until Steph's remark made her stop and think about what she was seeing - the treetops, not just the trunks - and well beyond that. Her eyes grew wide, and her laughter joined with Steph's.

"Look!" She exclaimed, squinting with a slightly precarious lean of her nose toward the meadow belong Stone Circle. A dark mass moved about the grass, indistinguishable if the two of them hadn't known what graze down there. "Those must be the bison, but they don't look so big anymore!"
