Sirimiri looked around, silently agreeing with her brother. She gave a tacit nod of agreement and stepped away from the others to process her own disappointment. It was upsetting not to have her little inkdark niece darting toward them, head thrown back and ears pressed forward, her silky tail flapping like the wing of a bird behind her. Of course it was. But -
"There's no sense in standing here and feeling sorry for ourselves," she said briskly, coming back to give Komodo a quick kiss on the cheek. She nosed Serein as well as she turned back inland. "Let's grab some leftovers and get a good night's sleep. We'll head back inland in the morning and ask around for her then. She won't have gone far from the ocean, and I'm sure anyone who's seen her would remember her."
With that said, the woman put it out of her mind. There really wasn't any sense in worrying about it, either. She knew that every day could be a wolf's last, and had known the last time she's parted with her niece that it could be their last goodbye. Still, to have her so close and miss her by this much... well, a good meal would make them all feel better.
