mona was terrified by the sound that emerged from the stones; the snow forgotten, the sanguine-coated girl bristled with a feral horror. here bears lurked — but she had no scent of bear within her nostrils. her terror yet unabated, mona trotted some feet away and whirled back toward the boulder, the great dark shape rearing through the mists.
defiance or stupidity — she would never know what fueled her lashing tones against the larger predator. "come out!" and what? fight? mona was not sure, nor did she truly care in the moment. the yearling's eyes burned even as fear leapt in her heart, but still she stood fast. she would not run again.
