She hadn't heard Merrit approaching, as silent as he was. It wasn't until he leaned over Steph's shoulder that she finally knew he was there. She jerked a bit at having been surprised by him, but quickly regained her composure with a smile. Hey, Merrit! she greeted happily. Noticing he was interested in the creature, she shifted so he could see it. It's a chipmunk! I thought you might want to play with it, she explained. She waited, then, to see what his reaction was.
