these days, mona did not travel far from the valley. unlike tindome and its histories, its tensions, bearclaw was full of an inviting and familial warmth that satisfied the wayward child. but the cardinal still had her wanderlust, and today it led her into an adjacent territory. the scent of rabbits hung in the windswept air, and mona began to search for the velveteen beasties, humming beneath her breath.
she did not catch the fragrance worn by the solitary woman; quite oblivious, the flash of red fur continued on her way, not truly hungry but wanting return with something for the caches. but the summerglowing of the hollow was soon too beautiful to ignore; the girl paused her hunt to marvel at the greenery roundabout.
