The creature had spent too long in the quarry. She had painted the rocks with blood and strewn the paths with gore, and this seemed to keep the curious beasts of the valley away. It was boring. She was listless; like any hungry animal, she would have to find a more suitable hunting ground. Thus the creature departed from the graveyard of gravel and stone and ruined carcasses and headed north. The forest was a wound that she, the worm, worked her way across; the ruins of a once great forest beheld her poorly constructed form, and she cast her rueful gaze across the blackened trees.
