the boy moved carelessly, and behind him abraxas stalked, shadow to his every step. he knew the wood intimately, and each footfall was met with silence, each movement careful. the boy was headed toward the part of the wood where the canopy opened and the trees grew further apart; abraxas stilled. he shifted and became utterly motionless, gaze settled on the boy as he waited for the audience to appear. until he knows the wood's new residents almost as well as he knows the wood itself, he will stay out of sight, out of mind.
