Lightning sparked into existence against the night sky from a far off storm to the north, drawing the shadow's gaze. The recent warming temperatures had spawned heat storms which passed by the Sunspires. However, the ethereal beauty of such storms was still visible to Sorin eye. He had heard the faint crash of thunder a short while ago, and had traversed up the mountainside to investigate. Now, he sat atop a large boulder, watching the lightning tear across the night.

As the stars were warriors, lightning were their fangs. Or so Sorin had been told by his mentor. He could still remember the wide eyed fascination he had when the wise old man had first told Sorin about the battles among the spirits.

"The spirits of the ancestors battle with their old foes. They fight to protect us from the harmful souls of those who sought to destroy in life, who seek to continue destroying even in death. Lightning signifies the glint of fangs, and thunder is their battle cry. One day, if we live honorably, then we may take a place among the spirits."

"Are you among those fighting Viggo?" Sorin whispered to the wind, a possessed by a fool's hope that his old mentor could hear him. "Have you fought to protect us? Did you avenge yourself when Bane entered the fray?" Sorin had no doubt that Bane had joined the destroyers of life, for the previous beta had dishonored and broken his pack and leader. He only hoped that Viggo had the chance to take the vengeance he deserved.

"Has she entered the battle, or does she still live on?" It was a question which had haunted Sorin since he left the valley of his old pack. Had Livia survived, had she found another pack to ruin? Had she passed on, been killed in her quest for power?

Would the two of them ever cross paths again?

The final thought scared Sorin to no end. She had caused him so much pain, and the thought of her entering his life again caused a shadow of worry to cross his ever stoic face. He wasn't sure how he would handle such a situation. Sure, he had grown a lot since those young and foolish days, but he doubted his strength in regards to her. If they ever did cross paths, Sorin was sure she would do everything in her power to break him again.

Sighing deeply, he kept his gaze on the storm, sending a silent plea to Viggo for strength when he needed it most.
