Water cascaded, silver and blue and green and colorless all at once as it trickled between the webbed skin of her pawpads.
She'd really meant to stock her stores with food, really. (And she had already amassed a small pile of pinkeens to fill her newly dug cache.) It was only too easy to become distracted by the tumbling gymnastics of the water falling over sheets of moss-coated stone.
Scar-adorned crown tipping and tilting in fascination at the sight of a miniscule cataract; the wolfdog simply hadn't been able to help herself - a paw dipped into the flow, giggles pouring from the yearling's lips as she'd allowed the cascades to play over her limbs.
Following the trickling stream, she delved into a deeper pool with the same abandon - gliding unencumbered for once, weightless in the oasis. Her awed grin beamed upon the sight of a shoal of small fish flickering shyly along the rock walls of the far side; creatures much like she in their timidity, their quick escapes at a hint of danger.
