As she continued forward, getting ever-closer to the she-wolf, a sudden scent infiltrated her nose and sent her reeling. Peregrine! This young wolf smelled of the male who had tried to kill her just days before. Ellie swallowed, pupils dilating. How did she know Peregrine hadn't told his pack about her. How did she know she wasn't walking into a trap?

She laughed nervously, then turned tail and fled, leaving the wolf, and her infected prey, far behind...
