After ejecting Shadow from Swiftcurrent Creek, Bazi had taken to wandering further afield. It struck her that the majority of the pack were unknown to her, and although she wanted to interrogate each one, the idea of being left with a pack of zero members frightened her more than sharing a home with tolerant, open-minded hippies. She had avoided Paarthurnax completely for fear that she would depart with Shadow. Chances were she had already gone, and the thought made her heart ache.

It was overcast and windy on Porcupine Ridge. Bazi climbed nimbly among the stones, occasionally pressing her nose to the ground when the scent of wolf wafted up to her face. She needed loners - or traitors, either would do. If she wanted to cleanse Swiftcurent's ranks she needed to establish a solid core of likeminded individuals first and foremost.
