they crossed the plains in silence, until dawnlight rose bleeding across the horizon, becoming a forest the likes of which neither had seen before. brunhild drank in the sweet air there and began to say something else, but the ander did not heed her.
resigned, she lifts her chin to plead the wind:
volkbert! my king! return her to me!
