With a vast ocean blocking his path forward, Finnur had instead opted to double back and stray elsewhere, travelling across the changing landscape and reserving only the bare minimum of his time to sleep. There was a lot to see and smell, after all.
After circling around a vast lake—he was sure this really was a lake. It did not smell of brine and seaweed—he came to a dark forest with wide, gnarled trees, their branches bent overhead and poised as if to strike unsuspecting passers-by.
Yet still snow crunched beneath his paws as he followed the trail of a rabbit, hunting on sight alone for a change though he could not prevent the enticing smell of a good meal from teasing his nostrils.
Finnur sneaked closer to the animal once it came in sight and ran after it when the rabbit fled.
