She studied the girl's unusual colouring: stark white, marked by patches of bold ebony. The crimson beauty had thoughts she herself had been an unusual creature, but this juvenile certainly outshone her on that front with her mottled pattern and unknown language.

Curiously, Paar twitched her nose and sensed her partner's awkwardness, though was more than happy to take the reins of the situation. She lowered to her haunches before the youth, dipping her head to be closer to her level. "I'm Paar," she said softly, gesturing briefly to her ashen companion, "and this is Shadow. Why are you out here, all by yourself?"
