The quiet snowfall factured an ethereal scene. Wind whistled betwixt the boughs of barren maples while a pale gossamer dusting began to stick to their ragged bark. A shiver ran down Valtýr's spine as he watched, momentarily forgetting the hardships of the world. The wonder eased his grief and mended the futility he felt. Even as a young child, he could still recognize that everything had truly gone wrong. The pain in his belly and the gaunt condition of his figure were merely physical ends to a horrible nightmare of event... but by come chance he had been saved by Lucius, though the child didn't have the capacity to dwell on its significant meaning.
His small nose curiously sniffed the air, little tongue peeking out from its sooty muzzle to sample flake or two. They tasted plain, but it did not matter because the pallid body of another wolf caught his gaze. Large, bat-like ears orbited upon his sunken crown curiously, watching her body become statuesque among the snowfall. She was close -- close enough to observe the quaking fur upon her wither and the damp copper hair upon her cheeks. She was older than him; a teenager which made her more approachable. However, after seeing Junior shrieking in pain and now watching this girl cry to herself... Val could only speculate that this was the place where all those sad, infirm, and begrudged were sent.
"Why are you crying?" the child asked unabashed as he took a few paces towards her.
