The child had begun to reject the seal milk a few days ago, and today they did not latch at all. Their little needle teeth slid awkwardly across the flabby surface of the seal-mother a few times before giving up on that, too. The child blinked. They made to reach for the bundle of dark fur that lay nearby - squinting now. A hazy light emanated from somewhere overhead, giving the faintest definition to the seal's shape, but that was not what drew Runa — no, it was the way the light halo'd around @Panik. Blinking, again; not realizing the importance of this moment, and only wanting to burrow in close to the familiar warmth and scent of sister.
