Calfuray wasn't far behind her. Shrike quieted at once when her faithful friend appeared, nuzzling into her ruff with a contented whine. It was good to have company.
After a few moments she glanced back out toward the taiga beyond, then back to her companion. Then ahead again. She only kept herself under control for a few more seconds before she darted out from under the trees, bolting across the open ground. There was no telling how far she would run before she grew tired.
