The black foe doesn't slow as Rain calls out to him and she realizes that she is going to end up fighting this wolf. She has been lucky to come this far without running into vicious wolves, it's not too surprising that she has finally come nose to nose with one. This being his territory, she will be fighting to escape with her life rather than try to win.

When the black male leaps at her, Rain lowers herself to the ground. Sharp teeth close down on her back causing her to cry out. She jumps up, twisting to try and loosen his grip and sink her own fangs into him.
