Kaliska had lost Gluskap in her travels and not been terribly inclined to find him again. She was fond of her brother, but there was a mischievous allure to being without him. He was boring, anyway, and rarely took part in her games.

"I better be staying," she said, feigning affront. There was, of course, the possibility that she wasn't welcome to, but Kaliska chose to ignore that. She wasn't one to believe she was unwelcome, even when it was painfully clear she wasn't, which wasn't the case here. "I walked way too far on these pretty paws to go back there."
