Julius felt Relonikiv join him in sticking his head in the fur. When Relonikiv jerked, Julius had a smaller, duplicate reaction at the force of the movement. With a grunt-ish sound, Julius squirmed backwards, escaping Relonikiv's movements.

The smell had cleared for the moment, and it was safe to breathe without his head in his mother's fur. The freedom quickly ended, as Relonikiv released another dose of horrific gas. This caused Julius to go back to the previous position. Not any sooner than he had done that, Relonikiv turned around and rested his head on Julius's back. Julius was complacent with that, as he had escaped the scent and Relonikiv seemed to have settled down.
