Her memory of that day was warped—she did not remember that Peregrine had even offered to have others accompany him if they wished. Because he hadn't bothered to bid his children a personal goodbye, and instead rushed his departure with a meeting and the barest of attention paid to them, Saena did not remember that he'd said anything but "peace out, bitches". He'd confirmed his indifference when he visited the pack and didn't even call upon his kids, at least in her mind.

She paused a moment and then grinned, revealing that she was only kidding. Their buffer zone was not as wide or strict as other packs tended to be, likely by Blue Willow's will. She watched him walk for a short while before turning back to the plateau and ascending the natural staircase with a strangely buoyant step.
