Shadow had remarked the borders, he did it even more often than before. It was partly because of the attack by the weird lesser canines, some with floppy ears, some with short legs. They stole no prey, because he had been there in time to fight them off, but if they were so bold to cross well scented markers, what was to stop them from doing it again, even if the markers were stronger? Perhaps, if they came by again, the Roman would make sure to kill one of them, and use their carcasses to mark the Bypass's borders. Maybe only that would drive them off. But until then, increased border patrols would do, and hopefully the lesser canine's leaders would keep his word, because if he didn't, it would be his fault should any life be lost.
Recently they had a newcomer and although the silver wolf was a bit unsure about him, he had accepted him into the ranks. It was his responsibility to check that no one was slacking for if they did, they knew what he would do, merciless kicking out of the pack. Noctisardor Bypass was not a sanctuary for loners, it was not some place safe for them to rest and not commit. If you wanted to be part of the pack, you worked to keep it alive, you hunted and patrolled and protected your packmates. And in return, you would receive the safety of home, you would have kinship and you would carry the honor and glory.
Casting a glance back at the frozen wasteland, the Roman Praetor trotted through the woods and into the archway and back into the treasure which he and many others called home. He kept to the shadows of the woods as he sniffed the air, hoping to check on the newest wolf in their ranks. Jax.
