The scuffle did not take long to resolve. Even though instinct was the engine behind Saena's conquest, Osprey had experience and age in her upper hand to best the insurgent teen. The storm-colored gamma adeptly dodged her adversary's lunge and, in one foul-swoop, delivered a powerful scruff to send the Blacktail into the snow. The challenge had been obliged and Saena, without an ounce of clout, slipped from her senior's hold into the forest's waiting embrace.

Valtýr blinked a few times as he tried to digest what he had witnessed. Though the Sveijarn was but an adolescent, the meaning of these ritualized challenges was not completely lost on him. However, the boy had trouble grasping how Saena saw him -- being so near Osprey at the start of this season -- even if her possessive stance had his skin prickle.

More confused than before, Val slunk low obediently. His sooty head ducked away and he moved to exit the scene, as Opsrey had urged before, to give her the privacy she had rightly won.
