DW's ears perked up when he heard something approaching, followed by jargon he could understand no better than the sounds the humans always seemed to make. Whatever it was that was approaching, it was decidedly NEW AND SCARY. The hair on DW's back rose, giving him a mohawk, and he growled. His ears pinned back against his head, and his stump of a tail tucked as close to his body as possible.

Then, he began barking wildly, his voice causing a flock of birds to take flight from where they had been sitting on the trees above.
