As an ever-wary and observant coywolf, almost to the point of paranoia, Jaws was surprised that the white female did not notice the cat, and furthermore at the repugnance on her face at the mere thought of one; but perhaps Jaws was atypical in his tolerance - and more, respect - for other predators. His hybridism may have contributed to his opinion but largely it was his upbringing - alone, and fighting for survival. By learning from any source, which included observing the behaviors of other species, he was able to keep himself fed and safe.

"Well, there was," he replied, gesturing with his muzzle in the cat's general direction. "Until it went into hiding." He shrugged. Talking about the cat was just a ploy to stall the she-wolf, perhaps halt her entirely, and it had worked. "But that's not what you're running from, is it?" His tone was serious, but his expression softer than it was before. She was young he figured, she may not have had a heat before and was unable to cope with the affect it had on her body or how it roused others.
